Police say they have arrested a man who fired a gun at another man during a dispute at Alameda Point.
The man, 18, who faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, was arrested June 14 after investigators served a search-and-arrest warrant in Berkeley.
The man is accused of firing at least one shot at another man the afternoon of June 10 after an argument in the 2700 block of Orion Street.
Along with his 18-year-old brother, the man is also suspected of stealing a juvenile's cell phone during a May 23 robbery in the 500 block of Corpus Christi Road, police said. Both men live in Berkeley, while the juvenile lives in Alameda.
Another man, 20, an Alameda resident who was at the scene of the shooting, was also arrested in connection with both cases, police said. He also allegedly fired a shot and was booked on suspicion of the negligent discharge of a firearm.
What led up to the argument was unclear, but police said some of the individuals believed that others were spreading malicious rumors about them, which apparently helped spark the confrontation.
TUESDAY, JUNE 13 BURGLARY -- Jewelry was reported stolen about 12:20 from a storage locker in the 1800 block of Webster Street. The thief also replaced the padlock with a different one, police said. A residential burglary was reported just before 5 p.m. in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 9:45 a.m. in the 2100 block of San Antonio Avenue and about 2:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of Shore Line Drive, police said. Vehicles were reported stolen about 8:35 p.m. in the 400 block of Neptune Gardens Avenue and at 9 p.m. in the 700 block of Eagle Avenue. MARIJUANA POSSESSION -- Police arrested a man, 25, on suspicion of possessing less than one ounce of marijuana shortly after 7 p.m. in the 1800 block of Poggi Street.
THURSDAY, JUNE 14 PETTY THEFT -- Police arrested a woman, 44, on suspicion of petty theft after she allegedly shoplifted merchandise from the Lucky supermarket on Marina Village Parkway. The arrest occurred just before 2 p.m. VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen just before 3 p.m. in the 400 block of Wind River Way, while another vehicle was reported stolen at 7:35 p.m. in the 2300 block of Pacific Avenue. BURGLARY -- A burglary was reported about 3:50 p.m. in the 1000 block of Central Avenue. Another burglary was reported at 5:10 p.m. in the 100 block of Brush Street.
FRIDAY, JUNE 15 BURGLARY -- A gun was stolen during a burglary reported about 9:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Maple Way. The thief entered the residence via a rear sliding patio door.
SATURDAY, JUNE 16 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen at 11:05 a.m. in the 500 block of Fitchburg Avenue, while another vehicle was reported stolen shortly after 1 p.m. in the 600 block of Central Avenue. Police also recovered a vehicle reported stolen in Oakland in the 2500 block of Barbers Point Road about 10:10 a.m. A vehicle reported stolen in San Leandro was recovered about 10:50 p.m. after police said it was involved in a hit-and-run collision in the 1200 block of Union Street. BURGLARY -- Someone stole a bicycle from a garage in the 3000 block of Santa Clara Avenue in what police are classifying as a burglary. The theft was reported about 4:50 p.m.
SUNDAY, JUNE 17 DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a man, 21, about 2:10 a.m. on suspicion of drunken driving following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Buena Vista Avenue. BURGLARY -- A burglar used two credit cards stolen from a residence in the 200 block of Maitland Drive to purchase gasoline, police said. The burglary, which also included other stolen items, was reported just before 9 a.m. An attempted burglary was reported about 8:20 p.m. in the 3000 block of Fernside Boulevard, where someone tried to force open a rear door. ASSAULT -- A 46-year-old man faces an assault charge after police said he used a stun gun on another man after an argument escalated into a physical fight. The man said he used the weapon because the victim brandished a knife and was advancing toward him, which caused him to fear for his life, police said. The man was arrested about 3:25 p.m. in the 1300 block of Park Street.
MONDAY, JUNE 18 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen at 12:45 a.m. in the 1300 block of Webster Street, police said. Investigators also recovered a stolen vehicle about 9:15 p.m. in the 500 block of Central Avenue. ARSON -- Three garbage cans and a concrete and chain link fence were damaged when an arsonist set a fire about 12:18 a.m. on the campus of Wood Middle School on Grand Street.
