EL CERRITO -- Officers tending to a motorcyclist who'd been badly hurt in a crash Tuesday discovered an illegal gun on him and arrested him, police said.

The crash occurred at San Pablo and Stockton avenues, police said. It was not clear in police reports what time it had happened, but officers responding to it found the motorcyclist, an Oakland resident, suffering a serious injury to his ankle.

As they checked the man, officers said, they found he had a loaded pistol with a high capacity magazine.

Officers seized the gun and will be turning the case over to the district attorney for prosecution, police said.
