PITTSBURG -- An Oakland man and woman were arrested on suspicion of assaulting and robbing a pregnant woman last week on a BART train headed for Pittsburg, police said.
The pair -- later identified as Freddie Lee Smith III, 22, and Sacha Coleman, 19 -- tried to steal the victim's laptop computer while on a BART train between Concord and Pittsburg around 3:30 p.m. June 21, Officer Era Jenkins said.
When the woman refused to give up the computer, the couple punched her in the face and stole her cell phone, Jenkins said.
BART officers responded to reports of the attack and found the pair hiding at the Pittsburg/Bay Point station.
They were arrested on suspicion of robbery, battery with serious bodily injury and conspiracy, police said.
Smith also was arrested on suspicion of violating his parole. He and Coleman each had a warrant out for their arrest before the incident, Jenkins said.
The victim was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released.
