Hercules has been awarded almost $10 million by the state in connection with a planned railroad station, the city manager announced Wednesday.

The California Transportation Commission approved an $8 million State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) grant to build the station, which would become a stop on the Amtrak Capitol Corridor. Additionally, the commission awarded two STIP grants totaling $1,959,000 to extend the San Francisco Bay Trail from the train station at Bayfront Boulevard to the Victoria by the Bay subdivision further north, including a stretch behind the Bio-Rad Laboratories campus.
