RICHMOND -- The Richmond Fire Department is investigating an arson fire set in a vacant house Friday night, Battalion Chief Merlin Turner said Saturday.
Firefighters responded at about 11:10 p.m. to the fully engulfed home in the 600 block of 30th Street in Richmond, Turner said.
"It was a definite arson," he said. "We do not have a suspect. The fire was started in multiple points."
The fire took about 30 minutes to extinguish and caused about $150,000 damage, he said. Turner praised nearby residents for helping to control the blaze using fire hoses.
"It was a very good job by the neighbors," he said.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the departments's fire safety hotline at 510-307-8160.
