Newell Arnerich became Danville's new mayor on Tuesday, with the Town Council unanimously choosing him to replace previous Mayor Candace Andersen.
Council member Robert Storer will take Arnerich's former spot as vice mayor after being selected unanimously, as well. The mayor's spot opened when Andersen resigned June 25 after her appointment to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors.
Governor Jerry Brown appointed Andersen to the board to fill the remaining term of the late Gayle Uilkema, who died May 19.
Arnerich and Storer will serve out the remainder of the current term, which ends Dec. 4. Andersen's seat on the Town Council will be filled in the Nov. 6 general election.
