ANTIOCH -- Several faith congregations from around the city and region are holding a walk at dusk Sunday in an effort to curtail violence.
The East County United Against Violence monthly night walk starts at 7 p.m. Sunday at Antioch Church Family, 55 E. 18th St.
The walk around the local neighborhood is less than two miles and should take about 40 minutes, according to event organizers. There will be water and some snacks for participants.
About 65 people participated in the first night walk held last month, said Teresa Flores, a community organizer with Contra Costa Interfaith Supporting Community Organization, or CCISCO.
The idea stems from local churches directly facing issues of theft and a larger goal of ending area violence, Flores said. The walks are a first step in gaining "some momentum," promoting peace and working with police and local stakeholders to find solutions, she said.
