Lafayette mayor Carol Federighi announced this week that she will not seek re-election in November.
The notice came days before the city begins accepting nominations for three council seats. Federighi's seat is up for grabs along with those of Vice Mayor Mike Anderson and council member Carl Anduri.
The mayor has been a council member since 1999. She was a planning commissioner from 1993-1996 and a member of the parking commission from 1980-1990.
Nominations are being accepted beginning July 16 until 5 p.m. Aug. 10. The filing period will be extended to Aug. 15 if one or more of the incumbents does not file by the deadline.
