RICHMOND -- A suspect who drove away as a Berkeley parking enforcement officer tried to "boot" his car was apprehended a short time later by Albany police.
The parking officer was in the process of securing the immobilization device on the wheel of the car in the 1700 block of Solano Avenue when the driver appeared around 1 p.m. and took off, according to Berkeley police spokeswoman Jennifer Coats. The "boot" came off the car and struck the parking officer as the driver escaped, causing minor injuries.
Berkeley police responded and began searching the area, putting out a vehicle description to other departments over the radio. Albany police located the car and arrested the driver at the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Carlson Boulevard, just off Interstate 580, a short time later.
The suspect was not immediately identified; he was booked on suspicion of battery.
