MARTINEZ -- A 23-year-old Contra Costa County man was convicted Thursday of exposing himself to a 5-year-old boy while working at the child care center at a 24 Hour Fitness in Moraga last year.
Pornthep Suvanasarn had been charged with two misdemeanor counts each of indecent exposure, and annoying or molesting a child, in connection with a March 14, 2011 involving two alleged victims, the boy and an unrelated 5-year-old girl.
After a two-week trial, the jury found him guilty of two charges related to the boy, but acquitted him of the remaining two charges related to the girl, Suvanasarn's defense attorney said.
Suvanasarn, who no longer works at the gym, worked at its front desk and drop-off child care center. The incident occurred in the child care center, while the child's parent was working out. Suvanasarn was a Saint Mary's College student at the time, but has since graduated, his attorney said.
The conviction means that Suvanasarn will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He faces a punishment ranging from probation to up to a year in County Jail; he is set to be sentenced Aug. 13.
