WALNUT CREEK -- A routine traffic stop by police Wednesday morning led to the arrest of two people and the recovery of a stolen vehicle, police said.
Officers pulled over a vehicle driven by Ashley Ann Freitas, 28, of Martinez for a code violation about 5:30 a.m. at Lancaster Road and Lancaster Court, Walnut Creek police said. A check of the vehicle revealed it had been reported stolen out of Antioch, and officers took Freitas and her male passenger, 24-year-old Jesse James Zupancic of Oakley, into custody.
Freitas was arrested on suspicion of possessing and driving a stolen vehicle, and Zupancic was arrested on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm, being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm and probation violation, police said. Zupancic also had several outstanding arrest warrants, police said.
Police found stolen property inside the vehicle and are trying to find the owners. Zupancic was being held in County Jail in Martinez, and Freitas was released after posting $20,000 bail.
