MARTINEZ -- The death of a man who fired a gun at police officers in Oakley while being pursued earlier this year has been ruled a suicide, authorities said Thursday.
The determination on the May 2 death of Bryan Ackers-Davis followed a coroner's inquest.
Oakley police officers tried to stop Ackers-Davis around 12:50 a.m. near East Cypress Road and Knightsen Avenue for numerous violations, but Ackers-Davis instead continued driving his vehicle toward Bethel Island, officials said.
As police pursued, Ackers-Davis shot at the officers with a high-powered assault rifle and hit the patrol cars several times. No officers were hit.
He eventually stopped the vehicle within in a field on the Bethel Island Golf Course and shot himself in the head, officials said Thursday.
The motive behind the man's actions was never determined.
