OAKLAND - A man fatally shot Friday night outside his East Oakland home was identified by police Saturday as Rafael Cortes Garcia, 41.
The shooting happened about 7:22 p.m. Friday in the 3100 block of 13th Avenue, two blocks from Highland Hospital.
Police said Garcia had just gotten home from his job as an auto mechanic when he was confronted by someone outside his residence and shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The gunman fled before police arrived. Investigators said they don't have a motive yet for the killing and no arrests have been made.
The killing was Oakland's 65th homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 67 homicides in the city.
In the hours that followed Garcia's death, two subsequent shootings took place in Oakland, police said.
The most recent took place just before 12:17 a.m. Saturday when police said two men were shot near the intersection of 90th Avenue and Olive Street in East Oakland.
Both were taken to local hospitals where they were listed in stable condition.
The other shooting took place in the Fruitvale district, police said.
A man was shot in the stomach in the 3500 block of east 18th Street just before 10:53 p.m., police said.
He was also taken to a local hospital where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information about the shootings. Anyone
