PLEASANT HILL -- Kindergarten through second-grade teachers are invited to a free two-day workshop next month to learn how shapes can help them teach students about math and science.

The hands-on workshop called "Shape, Strength and Stability: Bringing Out the Builder in All of Us" will show teachers how to add science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics -- or STEAM -- to their classrooms to engage students. The Aug. 7-8 workshop will be presented by the Contra Costa County Office of Education, KQED Education and the Lawrence Hall of Science.

Registration is first-come, first-served through Friday for the first 20 Bay Area teachers who sign up at http://tinyurl.com/kqedshapes. More information is available by visiting www.cccoe.k12.ca.us. Click on "Events."
