HAYWARD -- A man tried to carjack a woman at gunpoint early Wednesday outside her home in the 200 block of Winton Avenue, police said.

The woman told police she was confronted by a man at 2:54 a.m. as she arrived home, said Sgt. Eric Krimm.

The man pointed a gun at her as she sat in her car and she asked him what he wanted, Krimm said.

The suspect demanded her car, but the woman refused and the suspect ran off, she told police.

The suspect was described a black man in his 40s, 5-foot-7, with a thin build. He wore a dark blue sweatshirt and dark pants.
