PIEDMONT -- Police are searching for a Piedmont man who wandered away from home on foot on July 26.
Gary Richardson, 53, was reported missing by his family on Monday, ¿Piedmont police Detective George Phifer said.
Richardson is considered "at risk" because he has a medical condition and he does not have his medication with him, Phifer said.
Richardson does not drive.
"I am familiar with this person, who often wanders around the streets, but he usually returns home the same day," Phifer said.
Police have issued a bulletin to law enforcement agencies, checked local hospitals and with county coroners as part of their search for Richardson.
The Maritime Academy in Vallejo reported Richardson was on campus on July 27, then returned the following day and was asked to leave.
No one has made contact with Richardson since then.
Phifer said he does not suspect foul play at this point.
Anyone with information is asked to call Piedmont police at 510-420-3000.
In an unrelated case, Piedmont police on July 27 arrested a 58-year-old Oakland resident on suspicion of embezzlement and financial elder abuse.
Edwina Young, who also uses the name Phan Lee, was arrested at her home on a $100,000 warrant, following a two-month investigation. She was booked into the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland.
Lee has since been released on bail, Phifer said, and ordered to appear in court to face charges.
She had been working as a bookkeeper for an elderly Piedmont woman, paying her bills and doing other personal bookkeeping.
The elderly victim's family became suspicious after it appeared that Lee had written several unauthorized checks to herself over the last two years. The suspected amount embezzled from the victim is estimated at $6,000, Phifer said.
