NORTH RICHMOND -- A grass fire just blocks from Giant Highway near the Point Pinole Regional Shoreline burned nearly 2 acres of vegetation and caused a major delay along the Capitol Corridor line on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
No one was injured in the blaze, which sparked about 3:30 p.m. near Parchester Park Village and Jenkins Way, Batallion Chief Manley Moulton said. Investigators are still trying to determine what started it.
The fire ran along train tracks that serve the Capitol Corridor, and came close to homes that ran near the fence line that firefighters established.
Amtrak and Union Pacific trains were delayed while crews fought the blaze. A train running from Martinez to Sacramento was delayed for 36 minutes, according to the transit agency 511.org.
