SAN LEANDRO -- A 63-year-old San Leandro man was in grave condition at an area hospital Friday morning after he was hit by a car outside the San Leandro BART station Thursday evening, police said
The man's name was not released, but BART Police spokeswoman Officer Era Jenkins said the man is in "very critical condition" with life-threatening injuries.
He was struck by the car coming from the station parking lot at San Leandro Boulevard and West Juana Avenue at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
The car that hit him kept going and struck another vehicle head-on before coming to a stop. The driver in that car was not injured, police said.
The driver of the car that hit the man stopped and was also taken to an area hospital for a medical check. "The driver was fine," Jenkins said. "It didn't appear he was trying to get away."
He was not arrested at the scene but the case is still open. "They are still doing some investigation," Jenkins said. It does not appear alcohol was a factor in the collisions, Jenkins said. Anyone with additional information should called BART Police investigators at 510-464-7040.
