PLEASANT HILL -- The Contra Costa County Board of Education on Wednesday will discuss a petition to renew the West County Community High School charter.
After the West Contra Costa County school board denied the charter in June, supporters filed an appeal with the county board. The board will hold a public hearing Wednesday and vote on the appeal Aug. 15.
If the county board approves the appeal, students could start classes Aug. 20 at the small alternative high school in Richmond, according to advocates.
The school has operated for five years, but was not deemed successful by the district.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the County Office of Education, 77 Santa Barbara Road in Pleasant Hill. More information is available by calling 925-943-3380 or visiting www.cocoschools.org. Click on "School Board."
