HAYWARD -- The highly anticipated Off the Grid gourmet food truck market kicks off Monday in downtown.
The trucks will be in a new triangle lot bordered by Foothill and Mission boulevards and D Street from 5 to 9 p.m. There will be live music from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Organizers recommend parking in the city garage on Mission between B and C streets, which is about a block and a half away.
Monday's trucks will include Cheese Gone Wild, which serves gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches; Curry Up Now; Kinder's, a regional barbecue chain; Sanguchon, which specializes in Peruvian food; We Sushi, which serves fresh sushi; Pacific Puffs, which has cream puffs; and Yumsilog, with Filipino food. More could be added later.
"We expect Off the Grid to draw 800 to 1,000 people the first night," said Sean Brooks, Hayward economic development manager. "Once the road construction is done, it will bring a massive amount of people to the downtown."
