MARTINEZ -- A shelter-in-place warning and sirens going off near the Shell refinery in Martinez were a false alarm, police said.
Martinez police began getting calls at about 7:15 a.m. as residents reported being notified to shelter in place, a dispatcher said. Residents also reported hearing sirens near the refinery.
Those turned out to be a false alarm, the dispatcher said, and there is no current emergency at the Shell refinery.
The mistaken call to stay indoors came less than two days after a major fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond resulted in a shelter-in-place order that for residents of Richmond and nearby communities.
