UNION CITY -- A pet product company employee is facing criminal charges after police say he bilked his employer out of more than $200,000 in items including medications and flea prevention products.
Zhou Jun Hou, 27, was arrest on suspicion of theft Thursday in connection to the scam at his company Healthy Pets located in the 34000 block of Seventh Street, Sgt. B. Hayward said.
Hou, of Oakland, used his employment status at the company's shipping facility to take pet-related products from his employer and have them shipped to a home in San Leandro, Hayward said.
The Healthy Pets staff told police their product loss was estimated at more than $200,000, Hayward said, and that mostly pet medications and flea prevention products were taken.
When police attempted to contact Hou at the store Thursday he fled to the San Leandro residence.
Union City Police, assisted by San Leandro Police, found Hou at the home shortly after and arrested him, Hayward said.
"The resident who owned the San Leandro home was unaware of the fraudulent nature of the shipments and cooperated with the recovery of the stolen merchandise," Hayward said.
Police were able to recover just over $120,000 of the company's missing products.
