A special screening of a documentary on the role of sustainable business practices and the importance of buying locally to maintain a healthy local economy will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Rialto Cinemas Cerrito, 10070 San Pablo Ave. in El Cerrito.
The presentation of the PBS film "Fixing the Future" is hosted by the Sustainable Business Alliance and co-hosted by the organizations Policy Link, Urban Strategies Council, Alameda County Public Health Dept. and Buy Local Berkeley.
"In Fixing the Future, host David Brancaccio (of public radio's Marketplace and NOW on PBS) visits locations across America that are using sustainable and innovative approaches to create jobs and build prosperity, inspiring hope and renewal amidst economic collapse," the Alliance writes. "These issues are particularly relevant to El Cerrito and the Bay Area, where chains and big box stores often take their profit far outside the area to the extreme detriment of the local community."
The film will feature an on-screen discussion panel and will be followed by a discussion in a reserved room at Elevation 66, next door to the theater.
