Residents of Moraga, Orinda and Canyon will not be voting for three new directors to sit on the Moraga-Orinda Fire District board this November.
Incumbent Fred Weil and challengers Stephen Anderson and Alex Evans will be appointed in lieu of elections to three open seats, as they were the only candidates to file before the nomination deadline.
According to a spokeswoman from the Contra Costa County Elections Division, state code requires that the board make the appointments at a regular or special meeting in November.
The five-member board has been operating with just three directors after Dick Olsen and Brook Mancinelli resigned in February. Board President Weil and trustees Frank Sperling and John Wyro decided later to hold elections instead of appointing directors to fill the vacancies.
Weil represents Division 2 which oversees north Moraga and Rheem Valley; Stephen Anderson will finish out the remaining two years of Olsen's term representing Division 3, which covers portions of Orinda, Moraga and Canyon, and Alex Evans will represent Division 5, which covers Orinda.
Directors serve four-year terms.
