MARTINEZ - Firefighters put out a cluster of small grass fires burning alongside Highway 4 near Alhambra Avenue in Martinez with no structures reported damages and nobody injured, a dispatcher said.

The flames, likely caused by heated carbon from a passing truck's exhaust, were reported at 9:57 p.m., the dispatcher said.

An early two-alarm call was reduced to one alarm, and the fire was out by 10:26 p.m., the dispatcher said.

Staff writer Rick Hurd contributed to this report.
