OAKLAND -- The A's acquired shortstop Stephen Drew from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.
In exchange for Drew, Oakland sent minor league infielder Sean Jamieson to Arizona.
Drew, 29, was batting .193 in 40 games since returning from a fractured right ankle that sidelined for almost an entire year. He missed 137 games.
He is scheduled to join the A's on Tuesday, at which time the team will make room on the roster.
Drew's best season came in 2008 when he batted .291 with 44 doubles, 11 triples, 21 homers and 67 RBI in 152 games. He joined Robin Yount and Nomar Garciaparra as the only shortstops in history to produce a season of 40 doubles, 10 triples and 20 homers. A's manager Bob Melvin was the manager in Arizona then.
Jamieson, 23, was a 17th round draft choice in 2011. He was playing at Single-A.
