PITTSBURG -- A 48-year-old Antioch man riding a moped was critically injured Wednesday, and the man accused of driving into him from behind is facing a charge of felony hit-and-run driving, police said.
Police arrested James Jimenez, 20, at his Pittsburg residence, hours after the 4 p.m. collision, Lt. Ron Raman said. Jimenez fled the scene and did not return, Raman said.
The collision occurred when the victim was driving east on West Leland Road. Jimenez, driving what police would call only "a mid-sized vehicle," hit the moped with enough force to cause the injured man to fly back onto the hood of the vehicle Jimenez was driving, Raman said. The victim fell to the ground when Jimenez fled.
Police diverted traffic on West Leland Road from Crestview Drive to Railroad Avenue for several hours while they investigated.
