Drivers should prepare to ease up on the accelerator along Sand Creek Road the first half of next week as construction continues on the overpass and interchange in that area.
Crews will install temporary concrete barriers and the yellow barrels of sand known as "crash cushions" along Highway 4 between Lone Tree Way and Balfour Road to protect their safety.
The traffic control measures, which also include flaggers, will take place 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
Drivers should expect delays and allow extra time for their commutes, according to the Contra Costa Transportation Authority.
The project involves building an interchange at Sand Creek Road so that through-traffic on Highway 4 can flow through that point without stopping.
In addition, the construction of a second overpass parallel to the existing one that spans Lone Tree Way will improve traffic flow by creating four lanes of traffic -- two in each direction.
