MARTINEZ -- A Mexican national is facing 57 years to life in state prison for sexually abusing a male relative in 2010 beginning when the child was 6 years old.
Oscar Juarez, 28, was staying in Walnut Creek, earning money as a laborer to take home to Mexico, when the abuse occurred over numerous weeks, Contra Costa deputy district attorney Mary Blumberg said. Juarez was arrested in August 2010 after the boy reported the abuse to his mother. The mother immediately took him to a hospital, which called police.
"Because of this little boy's courage in coming forward, there is one less bad guy out there to harm children," Blumberg said. "He's a big hero in a little body, in my book."
A Contra Costa jury on Thursday found Juarez guilty of two felony counts of sodomy of a child age 10 or younger, and three counts of attempted sodomy of a child age 10 or younger. Juarez is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 21.
