CONCORD -- A 23-year-old Napa woman was killed Friday night on Highway 4 when the car she was riding in was struck and forced off the road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 32-year-old Antioch man was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and manslaughter after the accident west of Solano Way, according to the CHP.
The woman was riding in a 2004 Mazda at 10:43 p.m. when the eastbound car was hit by a 1999 Honda Accord, the CHP said. The Mazda went off the road and struck a light pole before plunging down an embankment. The driver of the Mazda, a 29-year-old Napa man, received major injuries and was taken to a hospital. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP had received reports of a possible drunken driver after the Honda was seen swerving across the highway shortly before the accident.
