FREMONT -- A teenage girl and her younger brother locked themselves in a bedroom closet and called police after three men broke into their house Thursday afternoon, ¿police said.
A 16-year-old girl and her 10-year-old brother were at home when burglars forced their way into the home on Nuttman Lane near Quarry Lakes at 2:45 p.m. After the boy and girl locked themselves in the closet, she called 911.
The burglars spoke to the siblings through the locked door and told them to come out. When police arrived, the three men ran into nearby yards, where they were nabbed by police.
Police arrested three men: Demarkus Benavides, 25, of Alameda; Marvin Lavil Matthews, 18, of Oakland; and Kenneth Denson Jr., 18, of Oakland. The three were arrested on suspicion of robbery, conspiracy and possession of stolen property.
Officers found items stolen in a Newark burglary in the suspects' car, police said.
