SANTA CRUZ -- Lifeguards on a Jet Ski rescued an 18-year-old Palo Alto woman who was stranded on a rock ledge near Yellowbank Beach on Sunday.
She had been swimming with another woman when the tide came up and trapped her on a rock ledge, State Parks Supervising Lifeguard Dan Terry said. She wasn't comfortable with her swimming skills, and her friend on the beach called 911.
State Parks lifeguards launched a rescue personal watercraft from the Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbor about 5:10 p.m.
The woman was not injured and was standing on the rock. Authorities arrived and put a life jacket and helmet on her, then had her jump in the water and put her on the ski.
She was driven back to the beach and reunited with her friend about 5:50 p.m., said Cal Fire Capt. Bodi Tunheim.
Cal Fire, American Medical Response and California Department of Fish and Game also responded to the call.
