HAYWARD -- A jewelry store employee found with a fatal gunshot wound at the business last week has been identified as a Tracy man, according to the Alameda County Coroner's Office.

Romiro Espinoza Rosas, 53, died Aug. 23 inside Espinoza Jewelry & Boutique, a coroner's spokesman said Tuesday.

Rosas, a staffer at the store at 655 West Tennyson Road, was found when officers responded to the store at about 3:50 p.m. after receiving a 911 call, Sgt. Eric Melendez.

Officers attempted to revive him but were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not released how many times Rosas was shot or where he was shot. A motive for the shooting was still not known Tuesday. Authorities have also not released information on whether the store was robbed. The store is in a shopping district that borders homes.

Investigators said they are looking for witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting. Anyone with information about the incident can call Hayward Police at 510-293-7000 or the anonymous tip line at 510-293-7197.
