ALAMO -- The Contra Costa Sheriff's office is investigating the death of a woman who died following an altercation with a next-door neighbor, police said.
About 11 a.m. Monday morning, police responded to the 3000 block of Stonegate Drive after reports of a fight between two neighbors, Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesperson Jimmy Lee said. A 59-year-old woman was critically injured in the brawl, and was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where she succumbed to her injuries Tuesday evening.
The two families have long been involved in an ongoing civil dispute, Lee said. The woman's name has not been released.
Lee would not comment on the specifics of the incident, but sources said the woman fell and struck her head on the pavement during the tussle. A friend, who did not want to be named, said the woman received a brain injury from which she later died.
The Sheriff's Office is releasing few details regarding the incident. Lee said no arrest has been made as detectives continue to investigate the incident, as well as the neighbors' civil dispute.
