PINOLE -- A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police say he tried to break into a sporting goods store.

Officers responding to an alarm at the Big 5 store on Fitzgerald Drive around 4 a.m. found one of the store's glass front doors broken and bars cut on a security gate.

While checking the area, a man was seen hiding behind a trash bin about 100 yards away from the store. When contacted by police, he fled on foot but was caught.

Mario Motylewski, 27, of San Pablo, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and taken to County Jail in Martinez. Police said they found evidence at the scene that suggested Motylewski was responsible for the break-in, but did not specify what was found.
