NEWARK -- The Dumbarton Bridge across the San Francisco Bay remained closed Saturday and will continue to be shut down through the holiday weekend.
The California Department of Transportation with help from the California Highway Patrol closed the bridge for the entire Labor Day weekend so crews can perform seismic retrofit work. The work includes replacing the expansion joint on the eastern side of the bridge across all six lanes of traffic.
Drivers will need to find an alternate route until the bridge reopens at 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
Caltrans officials say the work being done this weekend keeps the retrofit work on track to be completed by early 2013.
