LIVERMORE -- A major injury accident briefly shut down the South Vasco Road offramp from eastbound Interstate 580 while a medical helicopter was called in to airlift an injured motorcyclist to the hospital, police said.
About 12:15 p.m., police responded to a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle on South Vasco Road just south of Preston Avenue, Officer Traci Rebiejo said. Livermore police requested CHP assistance to close the offramp so the medical helicopter could land on South Vasco Road.
The motorcyclist was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries, Rebiejo said. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.
The offramp reopened about 12:45 p.m. Motorists are advised to avoid the area of South Vasco Road at Preston Avenue while an investigation takes place. The roadway is expected to reopen about 3 p.m.
