MILPITAS -- Police released the identity of the store clerk shot during a robbery at a 7-Eleven convenience store early Saturday as Mohammad Reza Sadeghzadeh, 67, of Milpitas.
Sadeghzadeh was employed as the night clerk at the store, police said, and was found dead from a shotgun wound shortly after 2 a.m. It was the first homicide of the year in Milpitas.
"There are detectives working nonstop on this one," Lt. Daryl Sequeira said Sunday morning.
Police were called to the store at 1496 N. Milpitas Blvd. with reports of an inured person inside the business. Officers found Sadeghzadeh, a father of two, on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Relatives outside a Milpitas home declined to speak Monday evening, and asked that their privacy be respected.
Detectives have determined that the slaying happened during the commission of a robbery. Officials have not said whether surveillance footage exists that captured the crime.
The store is on a busy segment of N. Milpitas Boulevard at the corner of Washington Drive, across the street from single-family homes, just blocks from the city's police station.
