FREMONT -- A man who police say stole a car out of San Francisco was arrested Monday after officers found him passed out in the vehicle about 35 miles south of the city.
Officers received a 6:15 a.m. call for a report of a man sleeping in a 1996 Honda Accord in the 4800 block of Mayfield Drive, Fremont Police Detective Bill Veteran said. When officers arrived, they found the suspect -- David Edward Mandeville, 52 -- passed out inside the Honda.
Police had to rouse Mandeville a few times before waking him, Veteran said. They also found methamphetamine in his possession.
When officers ran the license plate of the Honda they discovered the car had been stolen out of San Francisco, Veteran said.
Mandeville was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of a controlled substance and violation of a parole warrant. As of Tuesday he remained incarcerated without bail at the Santa Rita jail.
Jail records show he is due in court at the Fremont Hall of Justice Wednesday for arraignment.
