Local runners shine at Ed Sias invite

  • Bishop O'Dowd High's Eugene Hamilton III placed fourth in the boys small school race and the Dragons girls team finished second in its race at the Ed Sias Invitational on Sept. 8. Hamilton produced a time of 10 minutes, 23.1 seconds for the two-mile course at Hidden Valley Park in Martinez, leading his squad to a third-place team finish. In the girls small school race, O'Dowd's Emily Fieberling was fifth (12:57.9) to pace the Dragons to their second-place team finish. St. Joseph Notre Dame's Kimberly Avalos was 10th in that race (13:09.4), and St. Mary's Spencer Moore was sixth in the girls large school race (12:34.4). Louis Rodrigues was ninth (10:32.1) and teammate Gabe Arias-Sheridan was 10th (10:37.4) to pace the St. Joseph Notre Dame boys team to a fourth-place finish in the boys small school race.

    Hornets win Silver Division of tourney

  • The Alameda High girls volleyball team beat Clayton Valley 25-19, 13-25, 15-7 to take first place in the Silver Division of the George Mark Children's House Tournament at Alameda on Sept 8. The Hornets were 3-2 in the tournament. Janelle Ah-Hing had 56 assists in the tournament for Alameda, while Devon Lodge and Maddie Silverman combined for 41 kills and 35 digs for the Hornets.
