FREMONT -- Starting Friday, motorists can expect delays and road closures during the next week in downtown Fremont on Walnut Avenue and California Street, police said.
Portions of those roads will be shut down on weekdays only through Sept. 20 for utility work, police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.
The city's contractor, Sanco Pipelines, is doing work that requires closing Walnut Avenue westbound from Liberty Street to California Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday during the work. California Street will also be closed to traffic.
Detours will be posted for Walnut Avenue westbound traffic to turn north or south on Liberty Street; then continue to Beacon and Sundale westbound to arrive at Fremont Boulevard.
The eastbound direction of Walnut Avenue will remain open.
