HAYWARD -- A woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Friday after police say she slammed her van into an electrical pole and caused a power outage in the city.
Officers responded at about 1:20 a.m. to a report of a vehicle crash in the 25000 block of Campus Avenue near Highland Avenue, said Sgt. Mark Ormsby. Investigators found a 35-year-old woman standing beside a 2001 Honda Odyssey and determined she crashed the car into a PG&E electrical pole and knocked it down.
The woman -- who police identified as Chaunta Latrice Wells of Hayward -- was not injured, Ormsby said.
The crash knocked out power for 10 customers in the area until about 3:15 p.m., a PG&E representative said.
Police said Wells admitted she was drinking before the crash took place so officers arrested her and took her to jail. She was unable to perform sobriety test due her level of intoxication, Ormsby said.
