Learn more about birds and spiders or take part in a night hike or fall walk this autumn as the Los Vaqueros Watershed brings back its interpretive programs that were placed on hiatus during the reservoir's construction and expansion.
The fall events start this weekend with a "Bills, Beaks and Talons" program from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday followed by a Family Fun Night Hike from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Local residents can also take part in an arachnophobia lecture from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 22 or a Family Fall Nature Wander on Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to noon.
These upcoming events will be followed by more guided hikes, wildlife education, cultural history programs and astronomy nights through December.
The Contra Costa Water District is also returning the Tarantula Run on, Oct. 20, which allows runners and walkers to participate in 5K or 10K routes or a half-marathon, including a free 1K run for children.
Weekend events are usually free, but there is a $4 to $6 per vehicle parking fee. To view a schedule of events, check out www.ccwater.com/files/LVPrograms.pdf or call 925-688-8010.
