BYRON -- An American Canyon man died following a mishap during a skydiving jump Saturday, police said.
Donald Brown, 43, was identified as the victim in a skydiving accident at the Byron Airport, Contra Costa Sheriff spokesperson Jimmy Lee said. Sheriff's officers responded about 7:40 p.m. to 3000 Armstrong Road, where the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to witnesses, the man's parachute had opened, though he had attempted a maneuver for which he did not have sufficient altitude, prompting him to hit the ground at a high rate of speed.
This case is being investigated as a non-criminal death, Lee said.
