RICHMOND -- A week after a 27-year-old Richmond man was shot and killed near the Iron Triangle, his cousin has surrendered to police in connection with the homicide, police said.
Isaiah Thomas Jr. was shot and killed Sept. 12 in the 600 block of 17th Street, a few blocks north of the Richmond BART station, police said.
Jafari Sargent, 30, of Richmond, turned himself in to Richmond police at 8 p.m. Tuesday. There had been a warrant out for his arrest. Witnesses told investigators the shooting occurred after the two had a nasty fight. Detective Nicole Abetkov said the men were cousins but the nature of the argument was not immediately known.
Thomas was the 14th person killed in Richmond this year, said police spokeswoman Lt. Bisa French.
