San Pablo has hired a former Fremont official to be assistant to the city manager, City Manager Matt Rodriguez has announced.
J. Kelly Sessions has been the Fremont Fire Department's business development manager for the past eight years; the job includes the title of special assistant. Sessions reported directly to the Fremont fire chief.
Sessions also worked for Oakland for four years in management positions in that city's finance and personnel departments and in the budget division and the police department, according to a news release from Rodriguez's office. Earlier, Sessions was assistant to the city manager in Clayton and Colma.
He has more than 20 years experience in the public sector and earned both a master's degree in public administration and a bachelor's degree in international relations and Russian from Brigham Young University, according to the news release.
The city hired Sessions after an extensive search, Rodriguez said, adding, "I could not be more pleased that J. Kelly Sessions has been selected as the new assistant to the City Manager to carry forward a number of important projects for the city of San Pablo in the City Manager's Office."
Sessions' annual base salary will be $101,100. His official appointment date with San Pablo will be Sept. 26.
