Model exhibit set for USS Hornet
The International Plastic Modelers Society will exhibit scale models aboard the USS Hornet museum on Saturday.
Hundreds of military scale models of aircraft and ships will be on display, plus the event will feature workshops and vendors offering model kits and other items. A free children's "Make and Take" is also planned.
Workshops will begin at 11 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m. in the ship's Wardroom.
The aircraft carrier is docked at 707 W. Hornet Ave. at Alameda Point.

Alameda Architectural Preservation Society Candidates Forum
The Alameda Architectural Preservation Society will hold a forum on historic preservation for City Council candidates on Wednesday.
The forum, which is free and open to the public, will take place 7:30-9 p.m. in the Dal Cielo Conference room on the second floor of Alameda Hospital, 2070 Clinton Ave.
Among the issues expected to be discussed are the deterioration of historic buildings at Alameda Point, the proposed revisions to the Historic Preservation Ordinance, and the major planning efforts underway for Park Street north of Lincoln Avenue.
Dunk the candidates at upcoming fair

A dunking booth will be set up at the Neptune Beach Community Celebration -- the former Webster Street Jam -- and some candidates have volunteered to take part as a way to raise money for their favorite charity.
Among them are City Council candidates Stewart Chen and Jeff Cambra; school board candidates Ron Mooney, Niel Tam, Trish Spencer and Jon Murphy; and Tracy Jensen, who is campaigning for a seat on the board of the Alameda Health Care District.
The Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the dunking booth.
The fair will also feature live music, a climbing wall, food vendors and other activities. It will take place 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 6 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 7 on Webster Street between Pacific and Central avenues.
