HAYWARD -- A Modesto man was arrested Wednesday following a shooting between two groups of people in a Hayward neighborhood, police said.
No one was injured in the melee, police said, and the shooting does not appear to be gang-related.
Officers were called just before 4 p.m. after witnesses reported shots fired in the 27000 block of Tyrrell Avenue, said Lt. Roger Keener.
Investigators determined two groups got into a gunbattle and that 20 rounds were fired between two shooters during the incident, Keener said.
"It does not appear there was more than one shooter on each side," Keener said.
Although no one was hit with a bullet, a vehicle parked in the residential area was sprayed with gunfire. At least six rounds hit the vehicle, Keener said.
A 28-year-old Modesto man seen leaving the scene was arrested on suspicion of shooting into an unoccupied vehicle after he was identified as one of the shooters, Keener said.
Police have not released his name and are still searching for the second shooter.
A motive was not released Thursday.
