ANTIOCH -- Don't worry about that smoky fire smell and hazy skies coming from the southeast part of the city this week.

Fire crews from Contra Costa County Fire District will be conducting controlled training fires today, Tuesday and Friday on dry grass on the undeveloped property near Canada Valley and Vista Grande roads.

The exercises will start at 10 a.m.

The project is a cooperative effort between the property owner, Antioch, and the fire district to clean up, secure, and remove the fire hazard that currently exists on the property while providing wildland fire training, according to a fire district news release.

The property owners removed debris and abandoned vehicles last week left behind by illegal dumping and trespassing that has been occurring at the site, according to the fire department.

Smoke will be visible from the Antioch, Oakley, and Brentwood areas, including Highway 4.
