ANTIOCH -- Two Antioch teens were arrested Thursday on suspicion of setting fire to a city park playground last week, police said.
The boys, ages 14 and 17, are being held in connection with the Sept. 17 incident at the Antioch City Park playground, Sgt. Tony Morefield said.
A fire was reported at the playground at 10:40 p.m. that evening, Morefield said. Police arrived to find Contra Costa County fire crews putting out the flames, which had fully engulfed the toddler play structure on the south side of the playground.
Without any leads to go on, the cause of the fire was initially noted as "undetermined," Morefield said.
Several days later, officers received a tip that the fire may have been intentionally set, Morefield said. Police followed the tip to the two teen Antioch residents, who were arrested and are currently being held at the Juvenile Detention facility in Martinez, Morefield said.
